The Camp Activity Specialist (CMPACT) plays a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and inclusive camp environment for children. These seasonal positions leads specialized activities both indoors and outdoors across a variety of disciplines, including Arts & Crafts (STEAM), Archery, Sports & Recreation, Music, and Fishing. The CMPACT engages campers in hands‑on learning, skill‑building, and creative exploration while supporting the YMCA’s mission to strengthen communities and foster personal growth.

Ropes Specialist: The Ropes Specialist is responsible for the safe facilitation and supervision of high and low ropes course activities, climbing elements, and team‑building initiatives. This role ensures a positive, engaging, and safety‑focused experience for participants while promoting personal growth, confidence, and teamwork.
- Plan, lead, and facilitate engaging, age‑appropriate activities in assigned specialty areas.
- Inspect ropes course elements and equipment daily to ensure safety and proper functionality.
- Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Foster creativity, teamwork, and positive interactions among campers and staff.
- Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines for all activities, including outdoor programs.
- Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to enhance the overall camp experience.
- Communicate effectively with campers, families, and camp staff regarding activity goals, schedules, and camper progress.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established risk management procedures.
- Experience working with children or leading activities in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan and facilitate safe, engaging indoor and outdoor activities.
- Positive role model with adaptability, creativity, and a strong commitment to youth development.
- Must be safety‑conscious and able to respond quickly in emergencies.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willingness to obtain before camp.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed.
- Completion of all required trainings prior to the start of camp.
- Ropes: Supervise high and low ropes course activities, conducting daily equipment inspections.
- Arts & Crafts (STEAM): Experience leading creative or STEAM‑based projects.
- Archery: Knowledge of archery safety and instruction.
- Sports & Recreation: Experience leading youth sports or recreation activities.
- Music: Ability to lead music, rhythm activities, or performances.
- Fishing: Knowledge of fishing techniques, water safety, and environmental stewardship
