Construction Laborer

This role supports site work on a variety of construction projects by performing general labor tasks in an outdoor environment. You will work closely with equipment operators and other crew members, learning on the job and contributing to activities such as grading, trenching, material handling, and assisting with pipe and sewer line installations. No prior experience is required, and you will receive hands-on training in all necessary skills.

Responsibilities

Assist with site work on a range of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure sites.

Hold and operate a laser level stick while heavy equipment operators grade and level the site.

Perform shoveling, trenching, digging, and other manual labor tasks to support site preparation and excavation.

Crush and move stone and other materials as directed to support grading and back filling activities.

Assist with installation of pipe and sewer lines, including preparing trenches, handling materials, and supporting the crew.

Follow directions from supervisors and equipment operators promptly and accurately throughout the workday.

Work safely and efficiently in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather.

Travel independently to various job sites, sometimes as far south as Greenwich and as far north as Orange.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment with care.

Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time, being prepared for the workday, and completing assigned tasks.

Participate in on-the-job training to learn new technical skills and expand responsibilities over time.

Essential Skills

Ability and willingness to perform physical labor, including shoveling, trenching, digging, and moving materials.

Comfort working on outdoor construction sites and understanding basic site conditions and safety considerations.

Reliability and strong work ethic, including consistently showing up on time and ready to work.

Willingness to travel independently to job sites, including locations as far south as Greenwich and as far north as Orange.

Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a small construction crew.

Comfort working in all weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold.

Valid access to a vehicle to drive to and from job sites.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

Any prior construction or general labor experience is ideal but not required.

Any safety training such as an OSHA 10 certification is preferred.

Willingness to learn new technical skills related to site work, grading, and utility installation.

Positive attitude toward working outdoors and performing a variety of hands-on tasks.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role on active construction sites, working outdoors in all weather conditions. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work offered as needed. Start times typically range from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., followed by an eight-hour workday with a 30-minute lunch break. You must travel on your own to job sites, as carpooling is generally not an option.

You will work as part of a small crew that currently includes two equipment operators and three laborers, using standard construction tools and working around heavy equipment in an active site environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Monroe, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
