Field Service Technician I
The Field Service Technician I is responsible for performing comprehensive maintenance services on stormwater facilities and devices, and vegetation management services across a wide range of customer sites. The position requires hands-on fieldwork, attention to safety, and the ability to operate effectively in diverse outdoor environments.
The Field Service Technician I reports to the Operations Manager and is classified as Non-Exempt.
The Field Service Technician I is responsible for:
- Demonstrating our five core values (Safety, Others, Integrity, Initiative, and Passion)
- Preparing herbicides or materials for work application
- Communicating with customers about the scope of work, timelines, and updates
- Visually inspecting all aspects of stormwater conveyance systems and documenting any problems found that affect functionality of the systems
- Disposing of trash or waste materials properly in and around stormwater conveyance systems
- Using a variety of equipment for chemical applications to manage unwanted vegetation
- Identifying designated areas for treatment to determine appropriate course of action
- Applying knowledge of research findings to address environmental problems
- Verifying that hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of according to regulations
- Keeping records of usage and disposal of hazardous chemicals
- Gaining knowledge on immediate response expected for chemical spills and neutralizing, when necessary, which includes application of bleach, setup of sock perimeter, and application of Oil-Dry as is dictated by the label and training
- Using technology to complete a tailgate brief and app reports throughout the day as necessary
- Safely operating power equipment such as slope mowers, tractors, UTVs, marsh masters, and zero turn mowers
- Safely operating handheld power equipment such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge or brush trimmers, and saws
- Safely using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, or axes
- Maintaining and safely operating spray equipment (ATV, UTV, Roxor, etc.)
- Loading and unloading containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand-trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers per safety training
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling hoses or equipment into place for application
- Driving trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites, with or without trailers to haul supplies and tools
- Identifying and reporting any hazardous conditions or behaviors and defective equipment
- Adjusting, repairing, and servicing machinery and notifying supervisors when machinery malfunctions
- Manipulating controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery on spray application equipment
- Directing vehicle traffic including flagging motorists and setting out signs and cones
- Performing preventative, routine maintenance on vehicles, heavy equipment, and spray equipment
- Cleaning or servicing machinery to ensure operating efficiency
- Complying with all applicable traffic laws and regulations while operating a vehicle
- Adhering to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Developing skills and knowledge to obtain core herbicide applicator licenses
- Developing skills and knowledge on the proper application of growth regulators
- Adhering to company policies and procedures
- Conferring with supervisors to make operational decisions
- Participating in company meetings, trainings, and state licensure programs
- Prioritizing building strong relationships by effectively communicating with our customers, their needs, and expectations, to deliver exceptional customer service and a positive experience
- Performing other duties as assigned
