Construction Inspector

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with departmental policies, standards, specifications, and project plans.
• Complete and process construction documentation such as field diaries, reports, and estimates.
• Enter, review, and maintain construction project data in departmental systems (e.g., MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager).
• Apply DOTD engineering policies and procedures while working in the Project Engineer’s office and at construction sites.
• Serve as the primary construction inspector in assigned areas of specialization or certification.
• Determine material sampling requirements and verify materials, haul quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and support efficient project operations, including assisting other staff as needed.

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; or six months of experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.
• Self‑motivated with ability to work independently and interpret unforeseen conditions.
• Participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes and conferences.

• Construction Inspector 1 – Starting salary: $1198.40 per bi‑weekly pay period.
• Construction Inspector 2 – Starting salary: $1372.00 per bi‑weekly pay period.
• Construction Inspector 3 – Starting salary: $1570.40 per bi‑weekly pay period.
• Construction Inspector 4 – Starting salary: $1797.60 per bi‑weekly pay period.

All positions are eligible for an additional $2.00 per hour premium pay for each hour worked.

Work hours are 7:45 am – 4:15 pm, Monday–Friday.
