Associate Director of Athletic Academics
The Associate Director of Athletic Academics maintains the highest standard of integrity through compliance with all University, Sun Belt Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. In support of student-athletes, this position is the liaison between athletics and academic programming in support of student-athletes. Performs administrative duties assisting the Director of Athletic Academics. Provides leadership and support for the academic success of student athletes by coordinating academic advising, and implementing programs that promote retention, eligibility and graduation.
Serves as an Academic counselor in the Student Success Center.
- Creates, implements, organizes and directs athletic academic programming
- Evaluates academic services provided
- Coordinates interface with Students First regarding all student-athletes, including academic progress reports, supervised study reports, tutor/mentor reports, etc.
- Advises the assigned teams' coaches and student-athletes of academic progress report information and oversees supervised study and tutor/mentor reports to coaches
- Coordinates the coding of student-athletes in the Banner system (SGASPRT)
- Responsible for identifying and addressing the academic needs of student-athletes in the assigned sport by providing or arranging for the provision of academic support services
- Provides academic counseling assistance in the areas of course selection and registration for student-athletes
- Develops, implements and evaluates motivational and performance-based activities for individual at-risk student-athletes aimed at increasing their academic performance, self-confidence and transitional issues
- Assists in monitoring and approving classes to be added/dropped by student-athletes, including counseling students about such matters
- Monitors and approves curriculum/major changes processed by assigned teams' student athletes, including counseling students about such matters
- Notifies assigned teams' staff of summer school eligibility needs; coordinates procedure by which approval is secured by the student-athlete to attend summer school at another institution
- Assists in the hiring of full-time professional athletic academic staff and athletic academic services' graduate assistants
- Supervises, trains and assists in the evaluation of full-time professional athletic academic staff and athletic academic services' graduate assistants
- Trains, supervises and assists in the evaluation of one graduate assistant devoted to helping the director with football-related matters
- Communicates regularly with the coaches and faculty regarding academic programming, and the academic and eligibility status of assigned student-athletes; communicates with parents when necessary
- Maintains records on assigned teams' student-athletes and monitors academic eligibility
- Supervises records maintenance of other sports' student-athletes by appropriate academic counselors
- Meets with prospective assigned teams' student-athletes, parents and others during regular office hours and occasional weekends during heavy recruiting periods
- Holds weekly staff meetings and participates in appropriate professional development and office activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Assist Director with the overall management of the department

Required:
Initiative Supervisory skill Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records. Knowledge of student retention issues Knowledge of Sun Belt Conference and NCAA rules and regulations Ability to analyze program requirements, university, NCAA requirements, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill in records management. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to multi-task, to organize, to develop, to coordinate, and to implement.
