Job Summary

The Director of BPTS serves as the administrative officer responsible for comprehensive programmatic delivery of the PharmD and graduate curricula within the School and for the growth and stewardship of the School's research enterprise. The Director provides strategic leadership that aligns BPTS teaching, research, and service with the College; develops faculty excellence; facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations; and promotes the visibility and productivity of research activities.

The School's faculty teach extensively in the classroom, engage in research, and provide service to the College, University, and profession.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • School Administration & Operations
  • Provide leadership that enhances morale and professional growth.
  • Manage the School/department, including budgets, facilities, equipment, records, and staff supervision.
  • Assign duties (including teaching) to faculty
  • Plan and execute faculty meetings; solicit ideas for improvement and long-term direction and vision for the School.
  • Recruit, select, evaluate, and develop research-active faculty.
  • Represent the School at professional meetings and with alumni and other stakeholders.
  • Continue to teach in School courses and maintain proficiency within academic discipline.
  • Provide general program support by attending University, community, and professional events as requested by the Dean.
  • Serve on the Pharmacy Administrative Council and on professional, College, and University committees as assigned.
Research Strategy, Culture, and Visibility
  • Implement and monitor BPTS research priorities
  • Advise the Dean on national research trends and implications for BPTS.
  • Elevate visibility of BPTS research through communications, showcases, and external engagement.
  • Promote interdisciplinary research across faculty; broker collaborations with individuals, organizations, and relevant stakeholders in the community and state; collaborate with the Dean to formalize agreements.
Faculty Development & Onboarding
  • Ensure a faculty mentoring program is in place regarding research, career, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Ensure onboarding for new faculty (IRB/IACUC/OSP navigation, compliance, data management).
Student Research Engagement
  • In collaboration with the Graduate Program Coordinator, develop and manage programs that engage PharmD and graduate students in research within BPTS; support student participation in seminars, symposia, and research showcases.
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Program Coordinator to advise or designate advising for the Student Research Organization (SRO) and coordinate student-faculty research matching.
Compliance, Accreditation, and Facilities
  • Participate in accreditation activities for the College, especially those related to research and graduate education; prepare assigned sections and data.
  • Ensure adherence to University, College, and sponsor policies related to research integrity, safety, and reporting.
Scholarship
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and seek extramural funding.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
:
Earned doctorate from an established institution of higher learning; current rank of Associate or Full Professor; evidence of successful leadership in academic administration and research.
Language Skills
:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific/technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; ability to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, faculty, staff, students, and professional stakeholders; ability to write for publication and to effectively present to diverse audiences.
Reasoning Abilities
:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; plan initiatives; interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Other Qualifications

Demonstrated ethical behavior, professionalism, and interpersonal skills sufficient to direct and support staff and faculty. Demonstrated leadership and vision to build interdisciplinary collaborative research teams within the School, College, University, and with external academic/industrial partners. Knowledge of current trends in pharmacy practice and medical/pharmacy research as they relate to curriculum and research strategy. Working knowledge of accreditation standards relevant to pharmacy education and research (including graduate program elements).
