About This Job

The position is to assist the Project Engineer (Engineer
6) or act as Project Engineer as determined by District staff needs. The incumbent must be self‑motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions.

• Assist the Project Engineer with management of construction units.
• Assign technicians and equipment to projects.
• Act as project manager over more complex projects and provide functional supervision to staff assigned to the project.
• Attend project‑related meetings such as plan‑in‑hands or pre‑construction conferences and may represent the Project Engineer at those meetings.
• Review preliminary plans and make recommendations for construction.
• Lead survey parties to perform layout work or collect field information for the project office or other sections.
• Enhance technical and management skills through participation in continuing education seminars or courses.
• Perform additional duties as necessary, including emergency/disaster support activities.

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate. This is a temporary position pending attainment of the certificate; permanent status is not available for incumbents in this role.

  7:45 am–4:15 pm, Monday–Friday.
• Career Progression:
  Vacancies may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1–2, or Engineer 3–5 depending on experience.

• Engineer Intern Applicant: $24.04 per hour and eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Engineer Intern 1:
  Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44 per hour and possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Engineer Intern 2: SER $28.29 per hour, possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate and one year of professional engineering experience.
• Engineer 3: SER $33.39 per hour, possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
• Engineer 4: SER $36.90 per hour, possession of a current Louisiana license and either one year of licensed engineering experience or five years of professional engineering experience.
• Engineer 5: SER $39.48 per hour, possession of a current Louisiana license and either two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.
