Drax is seeking a Sustainability Forester to support responsible biomass sourcing for our renewable energy operations. Based near our US forestry supply regions, you will plan and oversee sustainable forest management and harvesting to supply biomass while protecting long term forest health. Responsibilities include conducting inventories and growth assessments, auditing suppliers, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. You'll manage geospatial and sustainability data, support certification programs, and collaborate with landowners, contractors, and internal teams to advance Drax's low carbon and sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee sustainable forest management and harvesting operations to supply biomass feedstock
- Conduct forest inventories, growth and yield assessments, and sustainability evaluations
- Ensure compliance with environmental, forestry, and safety regulations and Drax sustainability standards
- Monitor supplier practices and perform field audits for responsible sourcing and chain of custody
- Collaborate with landowners, contractors, and internal teams to optimize harvest plans and fiber quality
- Analyze silvicultural treatments, regeneration, and habitat impacts to support long term forest health
- Collect and manage geospatial and operational data to support reporting and certification requirements
- Prepare technical reports, maps, and documentation for regulators, certifiers, and internal stakeholders
- Support certification programs (e.g., FSC, SFI, PEFC) and continuous improvement of sustainability practices
- Promote a safety-first culture and participate in cross-functional projects across Drax's supply chain
