This Engineering Technician 5 serves as an Assistant Asphalt Plant Inspector within the District Laboratory, performing advanced and highly complex sub-professional engineering work related to asphalt plant inspection, materials testing, and quality assurance. The position works under the broad supervision of the Engineering Technician Consultant responsible for Plant Inspection and assists in monitoring asphalt production and construction materials for compliance with DOTD specifications, quality assurance requirements, and established testing procedures.
The position may also serve as a lead worker, providing technical guidance, training, and functional direction to lower-level personnel engaged in sub-professional engineering work.
Minimum QualificationsPossession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Assists with reviewing proposed asphalt mixtures and performing sampling and testing to determine whether materials meet DOTD requirements.
- Inspects asphalt plants, equipment, materials, and production processes to verify they meet required safety, quality, and operating standards.
- Reviews quality control records and test results, analyzes data, and assists with determining material quality and payment recommendations.
- Assists with identifying and resolving asphalt production and testing problems, including investigating material deficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
- Completes required training and participates in technical committees, procedure development, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) training.
Position Specific Details:
- Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional. Detail to Special Duty, Job Appointment
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM
- Compensation: The bi-weekly salary for this position is $1,923.20. This position also qualifies for a $2.00 per hour Premium Pay and a $2.00 per hour Shift Differential for each hour worked.
