What We Are Looking For

The Corrosion Technician position is based out of Kinder Morgan’s TGP Gas Compressor Station 47 located at 200 Worthey Road, West Monroe, LA 71291. This is a Monday through Friday position that will be responsible for working overtime periodically to cover projects and other job responsibilities.

This is a great opportunity if you are an experienced Operations Specialist, Equipment and Controls Technician, Maintenance Manager, Natural Gas Operations Technician, Railway Engineer, Quality Tech, Corrosion Technician, Gas Mechanic or similar.

Primary Purpose

Provide a high level of technical support on a regional or system basis relating to corrosion control and pipeline integrity. Design and maintain cathodic protection and internal corrosion control facilities. Conduct internal and external specialized corrosion tests on steel structure.

What You Will Do
  • Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control and pipeline integrity
  • Cathodic protection includes gathering annual pipe-to-soil surveys, gathering rectifier readings and troubleshooting rectifier units, performing interference testing, and recommending, designing, overseeing installation, completing as-built drawings for needed cathodic facilities, and completing project closure reports.
  • Design, install, operate, and maintain cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes, and internal corrosion control facilities
  • Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line tools, oversee CIS contractors, etc.
  • Monitor electrical isolation and identify points of electrical shorts.
  • Conduct various tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities.
  • Atmospheric corrosion duties include performing coating evaluations and providing technical assistance to district operations.
  • Internal corrosion responsibilities include evaluating, developing and monitoring the internal corrosion control program for gas pipelines. Understand and know how to install internal coupons and remove coupons.
  • Gather and evaluate data, recommend, perform, and oversee AC and failed criteria mitigative measures.
  • Document all related work associated with performing and maintaining regulatory compliance and operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Lead efforts to design and implement effective long-term cathodic protection systems.
  • Prepare drawings, job specifications and contract bid documents
  • Assist E&C and Engineering personnel with the evaluation / development / implementation and maintenance of facility grounding systems as needed.
  • Perform coating evaluations for atmospheric corrosion control and prepare mitigation plans.
  • Participate in PHMSA inspections.
  • Inspect 3rd party construction / work activities
  • Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Must be available to respond to “Special Permit” designated rectifier failures within 2 working days unless back-up arrangements are made.
  • Be willing to travel overnight for training, construction projects, Annual PS/ surveys and to assist other corrosion technicians as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Minimum High School diploma.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
  • Achieve and maintain all qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
  • Completion of any site‑specific technical training that may be applicable
  • On the job AMPP / Nace training will be required as needed and available.
Experience / Specific Knowledge
  • Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects
  • Proficient with computer skills (MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems)
  • Basic Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, etc.) Competencies, skills, and abilities:
