Position: (Engineer 9) District Engineer Administrator

District Administrator

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. The District Administrator serves as the leadership authority for the District, as well as administering and managing all resources and business responsibilities. This position is in District 5 and reports to the Deputy Chief Engineer.

The District Administrator's primary duties:

  • District Oversight:
    Provides leadership to the district staff.
  • Policy and Operations Management:
    Implement policies and direction from the Assistant Secretary of Operations.
  • Resource and Transportation Planning:
    Advises the Assistant Secretary of Operations on transportation needs within the district to improve resource allocation and department productivity.
  • Strategic Coordination:
    Ensures cohesion and teamwork among district operating units, governmental agencies, and private interests to support effective implementation of the Agency's Strategic Plan and Goals.
  • Program Administration:
    Develops, interprets, and implements policies covering construction, maintenance, design, public works, operations, permitting, and traffic.
  • Government Relations:
    Confers, advises, and negotiates with federal, state, and local officials, private entities, members of the public, and other elected or appointed officials on a variety of issues, including some sensitive and controversial.
  • Performance and Project Monitoring:
    Monitors, tracks, evaluates, and reports on the progress, performance, costs, accomplishments, and status of districts work requests, complaints, projects, agreements, permits, and reports.

This role requires decisive leadership, strategic budget management, and strong communication skills.

Position-Specific Details:

Compensation:
This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $4,079.20/biweekly. Additional compensation may be considered with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Licensing Requirements:
Must have a current Louisiana Professional Engineering License.

Appointment Type:
This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
