Join our team and make a meaningful difference! This position serves as a Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor/Registered Dietitian (RD) within Louisiana Department of Health Region
8. Primary program served is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), along with other public health programs as needed. Maintenance of the RD credential and Louisiana licensure is required to perform functions of work, per USDA federal program regulations. Possession of a permanent Louisiana Dietitian/Nutritionist license plus three years of licensed experience in public health nutrition or dietetics in a clinical setting.

Job Duties:The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Provide supervisory support and oversight to Public Health Nutritionists, Health Educators, and Nutrition Educators, including managing performance, development, and work assignments.
- Conduct nutritional assessments of WIC participants, determine nutritional risk, provide counseling, and prescribe food packages according to individual needs and program allowances.
- Independently perform high-risk nutrition counseling and make referrals as a Registered Dietitian, serving as a subject matter expert in maternal and child nutrition.
- Oversee clinical services for high-risk WIC participants, including monitoring nutrition education classes for quality and providing feedback.
- Manage formula inventory, perform walk-in and scheduled infant and pediatric formula changes, and ensure smooth clinic flow with adequate staff coverage.
- Complete detailed documentation in LAWIN (WIC management information system) and provide consultation on all areas of WIC policy and procedure.
- Provide and develop training, professional development, and enrichment activities for staff, and serve as a preceptor for dietetic interns working toward RD credentials.
- Travel throughout Region 8 to support WIC program operations, community outreach, and strategic planning for staffing, participation goals, and service improvements.
- Participate in special projects, community coalitions, and task forces to advance public health nutrition initiatives and best practices.
- Respond to public health emergencies, including staffing Special Needs Shelters and General Population Shelters, while maintaining professional competency through continuing education and licensure requirements.
