Description of job:
The Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver compassionate care while maintaining the highest standards of imaging quality and patient safety.
Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
Current ARDMS or ARRT(S) certification in at least one specialty; additional certifications are preferred.
Valid state licensure, if required.
Current BLS certification.
Minimum 1 year of clinical sonography experience preferred; new graduates may be considered based on facility needs.
Responsibilities:
Conduct high-quality ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and small parts imaging, as applicable to certification and facility needs.
Prepare patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, explaining the exam, and ensuring comfort and safety throughout the process.
Operate ultrasound equipment to capture diagnostic images with optimal technical accuracy.
Evaluate images for clarity, completeness, and diagnostic value; identify the need for additional views if necessary.
Document findings accurately and maintain complete patient records in the imaging system.
Collaborate with radiologists and providers to ensure timely interpretation of studies and clarify exam details when needed.
Maintain equipment functionality by performing routine checks and reporting malfunctions promptly.
Follow all infection control protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., ARDMS, ACR, HIPAA).
Support a patient-centered environment and provide compassionate, respectful care at all times.
Assist in training new staff or students as requested.
