Responsibilities
- Initiate infection control measures across the system according to accepted standards.
- Maintain records and prepare reports related to infection control data.
- Conduct infection surveillance activities to identify, investigate, document, and assist in resolution of nosocomial infection issues.
- Maintain IC policies and procedures congruent with state and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance.
- Plan, develop, and direct staff education related to infection control policies and standards.
- Identify actual or potential patient and employee exposures and respond in accordance with CDC recommendations, regulatory requirements, and company policy.
- Communicate infection control concerns to the IC Committee Chairperson and Employee Health Physician; develop and circulate minutes of meetings.
- Support the Infection Control program and policies, managing data, analysis, and dissemination of IC information.
- Implement IC education and training.
- Maintain records and prepare reports; support other related duties as required.
- Remain knowledgeable about current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration or a related field; preferred Master’s degree. - Experience:
2 years of experience in a clinical setting, including one year of infection control experience. - Certifications:
Preferred Certified Infection Control certification. - Knowledge of basic biology.
- Strong organizational, communication, and delegation skills.
Sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 pounds; may involve walking or standing briefly. Risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste due to receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal of contaminated waste.
