The Security Officer inspects, monitors, controls, and patrols work sites, an assigned facility, and/or people, and may be expected to collect and complete paperwork. Maintains security at all hospital outlets. May conduct safety inspections. The position relies on guidelines and some experience and judgment to complete job and works under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Customer Service
- Customers/property escorted to desired destination when there is a concern for money, documents, or safety.
- Assist any person on the grounds or building with directions or information; no more than 3 complaints per year.
- Security in‑services within the department or to internal customers are conducted according to set guidelines.
- Emergency Response
- Observe pedestrian and traffic activity in assigned areas; enforce parking protocols; provide directions to visitors.
- Investigate and report potential hazards or suspicious circumstances to Dispatcher and/or Supervisor at the time of occurrence; take appropriate action 100% of the time.
- Act as liaison to local law enforcement, assisting with any request and ensuring policies are followed.
- Patrol and Safety
- Patrol all assigned property on an hourly schedule; notify Dispatch when patrol is initiated and completed.
- Respond to alarms and service requests immediately; call Dispatch and update within 10 minutes.
- Check doors and windows of buildings in the assigned area for security; report any open or damaged areas to Dispatch.
- Comply with all safety and security related policies and regulatory expectations; enforce and document them.
- Establish shift priorities by assigning zones/posts and handling additional patrol requests; provide assistance as needed.
- Complete security or risk assessment tools to identify high risk areas or potential hazards by the expected date.
- Other Duties
- Complete and document assigned inspections by the end of the shift, noting any issues found.
- Finish all required departmental, organizational, or regulatory documentation by the end of the shift.
- Operate badging/access control, CCTV system, and related programs/software (dispatch log, e‑mail, phone system) per department procedures.
- Conduct field training for all new officers; complete training and submit competency documentation to the manager within 5 days and no later than 90 days of hire.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of good driving experience: no more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years and zero DUI or reckless driving convictions; periodic motor‑vehicle driving record checks may be required.
- Interpersonal and human relations skills plus oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license (or must obtain one within probationary employment period if coming from out of state).
