A Street Light Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of public lighting systems and electrical infrastructure. They troubleshoot circuits, replace defective fixtures, and ensure roadway illumination meets safety standards. The role requires working at heights and handling high-voltage electricity.
Core Responsibilities- Maintenance & Repair:
Troubleshoot streetlight circuits, repair wiring, and replace broken components (bulbs, ballasts, and photocells). - Installation:
Mount, wire, and install new streetlight poles, fixtures, and control panels. - Inspections:
Conduct routine checks to identify potential hazards, outages, or accidental damage. - Safety & Traffic Control:
Set up safe work zones near high-speed traffic and utilize safety equipment. - Equipment Operation:
Safely operate heavy equipment, including aerial bucket trucks and digger derricks. - Record Keeping:
Log maintenance activities, manage parts inventory, and update GIS or asset management systems.
- Experience:
2 years of general electric experience, preferably with outdoor lighting, utility work, or traffic signals. - Reliable and independent working style.
- Physical capabilities: ability to work at significant heights from aerial lifts, lift 50–60 lbs, and distinguish color‑coded wiring.
- Licenses:
Valid Chauffeur’s License required; CDL preferred; clean driving record. - Flexibility: work in all weather conditions, respond to after‑hours emergencies or rotating stand‑by duties.
