Responsibilities
- Perform full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance, repairs, and modifications of moderate difficulty.
- Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation.
- Use technical documentation (blueprints, manufacturer manuals, maintenance information, action messages) to solve moderate to complex problems.
- Receive technical guidance from supervisor or higher‑level technician; occasionally lead teams on complex aircraft tasks.
- Prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies (engines, rotors, transmissions, flight controls, and component assemblies).
- Service and lubricate aircraft systems.
- Safely prepare aircraft for inspections, maintenance checks, and service.
- Perform scheduled inspections and assist with special inspections.
- Conduct limited operational checks and diagnose troubleshooting aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment.
- Maintain operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
- Interpret aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information, and government guidance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical component issues; repair and replace parts.
- Apply electrical theory and use aircraft‑specific tools (test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, sheers).
- Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records using technical publications and the Government STAMIS.
- Inspect type maintenance performed by Aircraft Mechanic
I. - Operate Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS) when assigned.
- Hold FAA Powerplant license or, if not, have minimum five years documented as FEDS operator.
- Obtain DoD EPA Refrigerant Processing Certificate Section
608 Technician Certification (Universal) or minimum TypeII when designated. - May serve as FOE/FOD Program Administrator when designated.
- Perform non‑crew member duties when qualified.
- For crane operator duties: have three years of related experience and comply with OSHA
1926 regulations. - Perform aircraft condition evaluations (ACE) inspection duties as directed.
- Use Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) when required.
- Valid, up‑to‑date A&P license.
- Two (2) years aviation maintenance experience.
- Three (3) years rotary‑wing aircraft experience.
- Two (2) of the years on the assigned Mission Design Series.
- All experience within the five (5) most recent years.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization.
- Must provide own tool and toolbox; all tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
- Good communication skills; adaptable, diversified, and capable of troubleshooting entire aircraft system.
- Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and associated systems principles to complete all probable work tasks.
- Knowledge of Quality Control, Production and Supply procedures required to perform job assignment.
- Ability to properly use common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches, scales, test, measurement and diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models.
- Determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be corrected through repair or replacement of new parts and the nature and extent of repair required.
- Skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data.
- Climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Frequent lifting of parts and equipment up to 20 pounds; occasional lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Most heavy lifting accomplished through mechanical devices.
- Work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
- Respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
