Position: Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Ft. Polk, LA

Position Overview

Val Corp is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to support our government contract operations at Fort Polk, Louisiana
.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will inspect, diagnose, repair, rebuild, and test heavy equipment and related components. The successful candidate will perform maintenance and repairs in accordance with applicable technical manuals, Army requirements, contract specifications, safety procedures, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, rebuild, and test heavy equipment and related components.
  • Identify equipment defects, damage, and excessive wear using appropriate diagnostic and test equipment.
  • Remove, replace, and repair engines, transmissions, subassemblies, and other major components.
  • Use technical manuals, schematics, specialized tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic equipment to perform assigned maintenance.
  • Perform welding and structural repairs when qualified and assigned.
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with applicable Army, contract, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Complete required maintenance records, reports, and documentation.
  • Assist with parts cleaning, assembly, disassembly, and other maintenance activities as required.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and work processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain required facility credentials and customer access.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) or more years of recent heavy equipment maintenance experience
    , including applicable experience consistent with contract requirements.
  • Current Class A CDL maintained throughout employment. Qualified candidates without a current Class A CDL may be permitted to obtain one within 90 days of employment
    .
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment systems, diagnostics, components, specialized tools, and repair methods.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, service bulletins, schematics, data tables, publications, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to obtain required site licenses, certifications, and credentials, including forklift certification, as applicable.
  • Ability to successfully meet applicable customer or site medical examination requirements.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete routine reports and documentation.
  • Must provide and maintain a General Mechanics Toolbox suitable for performing assigned maintenance and repair duties.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining military tactical and heavy equipment
    .
  • ASE, diesel mechanic, welding, or related technical certifications.
  • Experience performing field repairs and recovery operations.
  • Military equipment maintenance experience.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    , with or without reasonable accommodation, and use proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles and equipment of various sizes and heights.
  • Ability to work at heights when required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying and potentially extreme conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, and blowing dust.
  • Work may require prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, climbing, bending, and other physically demanding activities.
  • May be exposed to elevated or distracting noise levels associated with heavy equipment and maintenance operations.
  • Must comply with all applicable safety requirements and properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Additional Employment Information
  • This position supports Val Corp's government contract operations at Fort Polk, Louisiana
    .
  • This position is covered by the applicable collective bargaining agreement at Fort Polk.
  • Second-shift premium: $0.75 per hour, when applicable.
  • Third-shift premium: $1.25 per hour, when applicable.
  • Employees are required to maintain all licenses, certifications, credentials, and qualifications necessary to perform the position.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully meeting all applicable position, contract, credentialing, security, and customer access requirements
