Job Summary:

Monroe Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Social Studies Teacher for Monroe High School to inspire students and foster a deep understanding of history, civics, geography, and economics. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student achievement, culturally responsive teaching, and collaborative teamwork.

Required Qualifications:
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Social Studies (RX) endorsement or History (CC) and/or Geography (CD) endorsements.
  • Must meet ESSA (formerly NCLB) Highly Qualified Teacher requirements for Social Studies at the high school.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student learning and critical thinking.
  • Strong classroom management skills and knowledge of differentiated instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
  • Commitment to professional growth and participation in ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching middle school-aged students in a diverse setting.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience implementing Michigan's K 12 Social Studies Standards.
  • Familiarity with restorative practices, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to integrate technology effectively into instruction (Google Workspace for Education, online learning platforms, etc.).
  • Ability to support literacy and writing across the content area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective Social Studies instruction aligned to state standards.
  • Design and implement engaging lessons that develop historical thinking, civic engagement, and global awareness.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records.
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives, team planning, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and staff regarding student progress.
  • Support and contribute to a positive school climate.
