Monroe County Community College is seeking a full-time faculty in Biology with expertise in ecology, botany and/or zoology. Main teaching responsibilities include teaching biology courses in and/or related to introductory biology, ecology, environmental science, and marine biology related courses. Other responsibilities and duties will include the preparation of instructional strategies and materials to meet the needs of the students including the revision, planning, and development of courses and course delivery methods.
Participation in Division-wide activities, committee membership, curriculum planning, and assessment of student learning outcomes is also required. As an integral member of the Division, the individual is expected to develop effective collegial relationships, work closely with students and local employers, and promote division programs and the College in general.
• A master's degree in Biology, Ph.D. preferred, with specialization in ecology, botany, or zoology required. A Ph.D. in one of the above subfields would be ideal. Candidates with a master's or Ph.D. degree in a closely related field of Biology with evidence of at least 18 graduate credit hours in either of the above subfields may also be considered. Applications without transcripts will not be considered.
• A minimum of one year (or two semesters) of experience teaching Biology courses at the community college or lower division level is required.
• The position also requires experience in the use of learning management systems and distance-learning techniques.
• Desired qualifications include:
Experience with the use of classroom technology. Experience teaching biology curriculum that involves field work and use of greenhouse facilities. Ability to identify and implement assessment of student learning strategies and practices. Ability to develop additional biology curriculum within area of expertise that expands the transfer curriculum at the College.
Beginning salary consistent with Master Agreement between the Community College District of Monroe County, Michigan and the Monroe County Community College Faculty Association. Salary schedule encourages professional growth and is based on 35-hour weeks, 160-day contract. Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance plans.
