Backyard Products, LLC is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team supporting a growing portfolio of sheds and other backyard structures.

This is not a traditional project management only role. We are looking for a hands-on engineering leader who can provide technical direction, develop engineering talent, improve processes, and help shape the future of our engineering organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong structural engineering expertise with proven leadership experience and a practical understanding of manufacturing, product development, permitting, and business operations.

• Lead, coach, and develop the team of technical professionals.
• Provide technical oversight for structural design, engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, wind loads, snow loads, and regulatory requirements.
• Support product development initiatives from concept through implementation.
• Improve engineering processes, workflows, and organizational effectiveness.
• Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, and Leadership to deliver safe, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
• Support permitting activities and technical requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Evaluate opportunities to strengthen internal engineering capabilities and reduce reliance on outsourced services.
• Help define and build the future-state engineering organization.

• Background in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Experience leading engineers or technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of structural design, engineering drawings, building codes, wind loads, and snow loads.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Experience with permitting, municipal approvals, and code compliance.
• Background in building products, modular construction, manufactured buildings, residential construction products, engineered wood products, or similar industries.

In your first year, you will:

• Build credibility with the team and organization.
• Assess current engineering capabilities and processes.
• Improve engineering responsiveness and effectiveness.
• Develop engineering talent and organizational capability.
• Establish a roadmap for the future of the engineering function.

Supervisors and leaders are responsible for supporting a safe and healthy work environment within their areas of responsibility. This includes:

• Communicating and reinforcing established safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Ensuring team members receive and understand applicable safety training, procedures, and requirements for their assigned work.
• Promoting the consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring PPE requirements are understood and appropriately supported.
• Maintaining awareness of applicable safety policies and procedures and helping team members understand where to find current safety information.
• Identifying, reporting, and addressing workplace hazards and unsafe conditions in accordance with established procedures.
• Encouraging employees to report hazards, near misses, injuries, and safety concerns and supporting timely follow-up and corrective action.
• Promoting a positive safety culture through regular communication, safe-work reinforcement, and leadership by example.
