BASIC FUNCTIONResponsible for ensuring the facility operates within applicable environmental rules and regulations. This job will provide oversight and support in addressing all regulatory matters.
NATURE & SCOPEThe Environmental Manager reports directly to the General Plant Manager.
This job is responsible for ensuring Environmental Plans and Permits are current and appropriate for the division. The incumbent will maintain and audit compliance with applicable environmental rules and regulations. This job directs appropriate environmental studies/consultants to ensure that environmental and regulatory issues are addressed in a cost-effective manner. This incumbent is responsible for creating and implementing Environmental Systems Procedures.
The incumbent will monitor state legislative activities to ensure Gerdau Special Steel Monroe Mill participates in the development of emerging regulations that could impact division operations. Providing expertise as needed in special areas such as source testing, air toxics, PSD, New Source Review, etc., to minimize staff/consultant time addressing easily resolvable matters.
The incumbent is a Management Representative of the Environmental Management System for the division. This job oversees the Environmental Management System (example ISO
14001).
The incumbent should possess a bachelor’s degree in environmental/chemical engineering, or physical science with a strong emphasis in chemistry and 8-10 years’ experience (with at least one year’s supervisory preferred) and experience acquiring environmental permits, conducting negotiations with regulatory agencies and supervising consultant activities. The incumbent must have fundamental understanding of major federal environmental regulations/programs and a detailed/practical experience based knowledge in at least one key environmental program area (i.e. RCRA, air permitting, UST, remediation, etc.).
