Position: JUVENILE JUSTICE SPECIALIST 1/2/3-THERAPEUTIC RECREATION AIDE(PART-TIME)

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking compassionate, committed, and resilient individuals to serve as Juvenile Justice Specialists at levels 1, 2, or 3 depending on qualifications and experience. These frontline professionals play a vital role in supervising youth in secure care facilities, promoting rehabilitation, and ensuring a safe and structured environment.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR one year of experience in any field.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or are under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief is granted.
  • Applicants found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or sexual activity involving force or coercion will be disqualified.
  • Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1(c).
Job Duties

This part‑time position supports professional therapeutic recreation specialists in delivering recreational and therapeutic services to special populations. The role assists with group and individual activities, ensures safe participation, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of treatment programs.

  • Conduct therapeutic, recreational, and leisure skill development activities under supervision.
  • Lead group and individual classes, workshops, and field trips.
  • Observe and assess client reactions to treatment, reporting findings to supervising specialists.
  • Maintain recreational equipment and ensure readiness for activities.
  • Escort clients to and from recreational programs and outings.
  • Supervise and assign tasks to non‑professional recreation staff.
  • Provide diversionary recreation or creative arts activities as needed, in addition to prescribed therapy programs.
Position‑Specific Details

Work Location: Swanson Center for Youth, Monroe, LA.

Appointment Type: Part time.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Juvenile Justice Specialist 1, 2, or 3.

Compensation:

  • Juvenile Justice Specialist 1 (PS‑105):
    Special Entrance Rate of $1,400.00 biweekly.
  • Juvenile Justice Specialist 2 (PS‑106):
    Special Entrance Rate of $1,504.00 biweekly.
  • Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 (PS‑108):
    Special Entrance Rate of $1,608.80 biweekly.
