Job Overview
Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) is a statewide network of vocational rehabilitation professionals that create customized solutions to help individuals and businesses meet workforce needs. The position involves providing rehabilitation counseling services—vocational guidance, physical restoration, training, and placement—for persons with disabilities. The counselor also informs community resources and the general public about MRS’s services within a designated geographic or program area.
Employment OptionHybrid/Flexible schedule is available based on satisfactory performance and operational needs. All work must be performed in Michigan; relocation is required for applicants who do not currently reside in the state.
Responsibilities- Deliver rehabilitation counseling services, including vocational guidance, physical restoration, training, and placement, to individuals with disabilities.
- Inform community resources and the general public about vocational rehabilitation services within the assigned geographic or program area.
Education and Experience
Education
:
Master’s degree with a major in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, guidance and counseling, special education, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or physical therapy.
Experience based on position level:
- Rehabilitation Counselor 9: No specific type or amount of experience required.
- Rehabilitation Counselor 10: One year of professional experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor 9.
- Rehabilitation Counselor P11: Two years of professional experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor, including one year equivalent to a Rehabilitation Counselor 10; OR three years of experience as a Rehabilitation Services Coordinator, with one year equivalent to a Rehabilitation Services Coordinator P11.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, a detailed resume, and official college transcript(s) with the college/university name, address, degree conferred, date granted, coursework completed (if no degree), and the Registrar’s signature or seal. A scanned or electronic copy is acceptable if it contains these elements. Applicants with foreign degrees must have their credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless they have been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA);
failure to provide the evaluation may result in screening out of the process.
