Position: CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE - SCIENCE CENTER

Overview

Performs intermediate skilled professional work providing customer service to Science Center visitors; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the science Center Supervisor.

This is active work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;

visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Assisting customers and Science Center staff, monitoring exhibits and maintaining safety; maintaining the cash drawer; fills in during the absence of the absence of the Science Center Supervisor and Marketing and Membership Specialist; maintains records and files.

Greets customers when entering the Science Center; responds to customer complaints.

Assists with daily operations of the Science Center by conducting opening and closing procedures.

Provides assistance to customers with admission, scheduling birthday parties, summer camp programs, and memberships.

Handles incoming calls and responds to inquiries as required; ensures that telephone calls are handled professionally and thoroughly and that customer requests are fulfilled. Receives and processes customer orders and payment transactions; reconciles and balances cash drawer; prepares daily operation and cash reports for submittal to Science Center Supervisor.

Receives, processes, and enters a variety of information into computer system.

Performs related tasks as required.

Qualifications
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; good organizational skills essential; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to follow work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skilled in the use of a variety of office machines and some typing ability; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate customer service and retail sales experience.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed.
