The Welding Instructor is a part‑time position located primarily on the Tyson Family Center for Technology Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director of Advanced Manufacturing, the Welding Instructor assumes responsibility for course development, instruction, and course assessment for assigned welding courses.
Licenses and/or certifications used for credentialing purposes must be kept current by the employee, unless otherwise noted.
- Teach assigned welding courses
- Develop course curriculum
- Maintain updated course materials and resources
- Remain accessible to students and colleagues
- Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
- Remain current with developments in the industry/field and instructional best practices
- Actively participate in continuous program improvement through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course and program level
- Participate in developing recommendations for program budgets, including forecasting anticipated budgetary needs for staffing, equipment, and supplies
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities, as appropriate
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment in all actions
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, Associate Vice President, or Vice President
* Teaching assignments will be based on the needs of the College at one or more of the following campuses: L.L. Polk (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway (Monroe), Tyson Family Center for Technology (Monroe), and at high school or community locations, including correctional settings. Assignments may be scheduled in person or online during the day, evening, or on weekends.
Required Qualifications- Associate’s degree in Welding Technology from an accredited institution or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential
- 4 years of full‑time equivalent work experience in the welding field
OR
- Documentation of significant experience or contributions to the discipline demonstrated through:
- 6 or more years of full‑time equivalent work experience in the welding field
- Technical and performance competency or other qualifying credentials
- Experience teaching at the secondary or post‑secondary levels
- Evidence of effective problem‑solving, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills
- Ability to multi‑task and effectively manage high‑pressure situations
