The Physical Therapist Assistant Clinical Education Coordinator is a core full‑time, 12‑month faculty member located primarily on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. This position is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and facilitation of the clinical education program, while also fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a full‑time instructor. Under the direction of the PTA Program Director, the individual acts as a primary liaison between the college and clinical partners to ensure quality clinical education experiences that align with contemporary physical therapy practice and the program’s mission.

Curriculum and Teaching
  • Teach a workload that includes didactic, lab, and clinical components while allowing for sufficient release time for administrative and clinical education responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning by designing and implementing appropriate and meaningful instructional activities that maximize student outcomes
  • Maintain and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses within the area of expertise
  • Participate in program review and assessment of student learning outcomes to foster program improvement
Clinical Education Coordination
  • Assume primary responsibility for developing, conducting, and coordinating the clinical education program
  • Establish and maintain an adequate number and variety of clinical education sites to support the curriculum goals
  • Ensure effective written agreements exist between the institution and clinical sites that define the rights and responsibilities of both parties, including procedures for review and termination
  • Assign students to clinical education experiences and monitor that academic regulations are upheld during these placements
  • Develop and implement mechanisms to communicate necessary clinical education information to core faculty, clinical sites, SCCEs, CIs, and students
  • Inform students and clinical faculty of nondiscrimination policies and monitor compliance during clinical experiences
  • Inform clinical education faculty of their responsibilities and provide clinical teaching and mentoring to them as needed
Communication and Liaison Responsibilities
  • Facilitate communication between SPCC, clinical sites, and all stakeholders regarding curriculum, expectations, scheduling, and site availability
  • Share program policies, accreditation requirements, and clinical curriculum details with clinical educators
  • Disseminate student information (as permitted), scheduling details, and required documentation to clinical sites
Evaluation and Remediation
  • Evaluate student performance during clinical affiliations using appropriate methods and assign grades for clinical courses
  • Work with CIs to ensure that supervision and feedback provided to students are appropriate for their progression level
  • Determine the need for and communicate altered levels of clinical supervision when necessary
  • Implement intervention strategies and remediation for students who require additional support to meet entry‑level clinical performance
  • Ensure student completion of all accreditation requirements, including required clinical hours and final evaluations

  • Attend all mandatory divisional and college‑wide meetings and graduation ceremonies
  • Partner with the Program Director and Associate Dean in recruiting, interviewing, and training part‑time clinical faculty
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Associate Dean or the Dean of the School of Health and Public Services
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Physical Therapy degree or higher from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency
