The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Product Development Engineer, you will play a key role within the R&D organization, supporting and advancing materials and process technologies that enable growth and innovation across the Safety and Industrial business.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supports new product development, product modifications, applications, technology/process development, cost reduction, and quality improvements
- Provides technical support to customers/clients, analyzes results, and develops solutions to technical challenges.
- Explores new technologies or product concepts and supports milestone achievement or commercialization.
- Builds and maintains a strong technical network; participates in and may lead teams and customer interactions.
- Documents work, prepares technical reports and presentations, and communicates findings internally and externally.
- May review intellectual property and ensure proper documentation of experimental work.
- Assumes leadership roles and may mentor or train other technical staff or customers.
- Applies corporate initiatives and may contribute to technical strategic planning.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start)
- Minimum three (3) years of mechanical engineering experience within a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Possess a Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start)
- Four (4) years' or more of experience in mechanical engineering
- Molding experience
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)
- Strong people skills and ability to influence, collaborate, and work with cross-functional team
- Self-directed and internally motivated with proven leadership skills

May include up to 20% domestic
