Job Description

The Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy Adjunct is a part-time teaching position located on the OCH and LLP Campuses in Monroe and Polkton, NC. This position will include in-person instruction and is needed for daytime and/or evening classes. Under the direction of the Program Director of Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy, the Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy Adjunct provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy programs.

This individual has responsibility for teaching and learning, curriculum development, advising, professional development, institutional service, and community relations.

Responsibilities
  • Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to South Piedmont Community College as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services
  • Develop learning strategies and curriculum that will promote successful teaching and learning in a learning-centered environment
  • Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, workforce development, and out-of-classroom activities
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement planning through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course and program levels
  • Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency
  • Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
  • Demonstrate high-level professionalism in developing and/or implementing long- and short-range plans in accordance with the philosophy of a learning-centered college
  • Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered college
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
  • Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college
  • Maintain and submit all required class records and/or reports on time
  • Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), in community locations (Anson and/or Union counties)
  • Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in Medical Assisting or Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Certification by the AAMA as a Certified Medical Assistant or one of the credentialing agencies listed below:
    • RMA (AMT)
    • NCMA (NCCT)
    • CCMA (NHA)
    • CMAC (AMCA)
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in healthcare, including a minimum of 300 hours of performing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or a related field
  • Registered or Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician (AMT or NHA)
  • Familiarity with a course management system such as Canvas/Moodle/Blackboard
  • Knowledge and/or experience with learning outcomes assessment
  • Demonstrated innovation within the field of education and/or technology
  • Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
