Manufacturing / Production
Machine Operator, CNC Machinist, Manufacturing Production, Manufacturing Engineer
CNC Setup Technician
This role focuses on setting up, changing over, and operating multiple CNC machines to produce high-quality custom parts in small batch quantities. You will design and machine parts using manual equipment, lathes, and CNC machinery, while programming directly at the machine using G and M code to support both electronic and mechanical door hardware components.
Responsibilities
- Set up CNC machines for production, including tooling, work holding, offsets, and program loading.
- Perform efficient changeovers between jobs, especially for 1–3 piece custom part orders.
- Operate and monitor 3–4 CNC machines simultaneously to maintain steady production flow.
- Design and machine parts using manual machines, lathes, and CNC equipment based on production requirements.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances.
- Program CNC lathes and other CNC machines at the control using G and M code.
- Adjust machine settings, feeds, and speeds to optimize quality, efficiency, and tool life.
- Inspect parts during and after machining to verify quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Troubleshoot machining and program issues and make corrections at the machine as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC machines, including lathes and mills.
- Ability to perform machine changeovers and prepare equipment for new jobs.
- Proficiency monitoring multiple CNC machines (approximately 3–4 at a time) during production.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Experience machining custom parts in low-volume runs (1–3 part orders).
- Ability to design and machine parts using manual machines, lathes, and CNC equipment.
- Proficiency programming at the machine using G and M code.
- Solid understanding of CNC lathe operations and general machining practices.
- Commitment to producing quality parts that meet dimensional and finish requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Comfort working with both electronic and mechanical component parts.
- Experience machining parts for assemblies such as door hardware or similar mechanical products.
- Adaptability to work on a variety of custom jobs and materials in a production environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills for resolving machining and programming issues at the machine.
Why Work Here?
You will join a production environment that values craftsmanship, precision, and the ability to work on diverse custom parts rather than repetitive high-volume work. The organization supports hands-on, skilled machinists who enjoy programming at the machine and taking ownership of the complete machining process. You can build your expertise across both electronic and mechanical product lines, contributing to high-quality door control solutions used in everyday environments.
Work Environment
The work takes place in a manufacturing facility that produces electronic and manual door stoppers and door openers. The site includes an electronics division focused on automatic door openers and related components, as well as a cast iron division that uses fluid-filled mechanisms within the chassis to control door opening and closing for smooth, efficient operation. You will work around CNC machines, manual machines, lathes, and related machining equipment in a typical industrial shop setting, following standard safety practices and appropriate shop attire requirements.
