Job SummaryThe Heat Treat Technician is responsible for performing heat treatment processes on parts, tools, and materials to achieve required mechanical properties and quality standards. This role operates and monitors heat-treating equipment, conducts inspections using measuring instruments, maintains accurate production records, and ensures a safe, clean, and efficient work environment while consistently meeting production and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Perform heat treatment processes including carburizing, hardening, tempering, annealing, stress relieving, and related operations.
- Set up and operate induction heating equipment, including determining appropriate voltage, current, frequency, feed rates, speeds, induction coils, and water flow.
- Conduct trial heats and evaluate sample parts for hardness, distortion, and overall quality.
- Read and monitor thermometers, ammeters, voltmeters, and other indicating and recording instruments.
- Use measuring tools such as scales and calipers to inspect parts and verify specifications.
- Complete quality documentation, production records, and other required paperwork accurately.
- Operate material handling equipment to move materials and finished products safely.
- Identify and correct process issues or equipment problems, or coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.
- Consistently produce quality work while meeting production targets with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes and basic metallurgical principles.
- Ability to operate induction heating and heat‑treating equipment.
- Proficiency in using basic measuring instruments, including calipers and scales.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, and monitoring instruments accurately.
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and process calculations.
- Ability to interpret and follow written work instructions and verbal directions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Good troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Technical or vocational training in machining, manufacturing, or heat treatment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely lift up to 25 lbs without assistance.
