The Department of Corrections Health Services Division is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to take on the role of Physician 3 On-Call at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, WA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care
    • Clinical care of incarcerated individuals, respond to sick call, review nursing triage, and work closely with the Nursing Team and other clinical staff.
    • Implement the plan of care, providing direct patient care, directing others about urgency and methods to deliver health care on and off site, determining when needs become more urgent, and obtaining provider orders and accomplishing interventions timely and clinically responsive.
    • Practice medicine and provide safe and effective clinical/medical care within scope defined by state law, administrative code, and WA DOC health plan.
    • Diagnose health problems and determine outcomes to be achieved. Provide medication as required.
    • Collaborate with Facility Medical Director and HSM3 in planning delivery of health care, defining time frames and pathways, prioritizing and sequencing, ensuring continuity of care.
    • Communicate effectively verbally, in writing and via computer or other electronic media with patients, families, health care personnel, custody and other institutional personnel, and outside stakeholders. Identify problems and solutions. Legible handwriting of documents, clinical findings, rationale and plan for actions taken.
    • Assist Facility Medical Director in establishing therapeutic relationships preserving professional boundaries with patients and families to counsel, teach and assist them to reduce health risks, improve self‑care, manage symptoms and side effects, participate in prescribed treatment regimes and make informed decisions about health care.
    • Provide accurate authoritative information.
    • Provide help with treatment/management of Hepatitis C patients as well as OUD/Suboxone.
    • Provide care in any unit depending on needs, including on‑call phone status.
  • Provide clinical consultation and oversight to ARNPs and PAs at MCC
    • Under the supervision of the FMD, clinically consult and oversee a staff of midlevel providers within DOC policies and DOH RCW’s.
    • Serve as consultant to Health Services Managers, RN4, and Custody Administration.
    • Assist in evaluating the clinical performance of all contract medical providers.
    • Provide instruction, teach and mentor medical practitioners.
    • Review and ensure clinician compliance.
  • Consultation and Training
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team to develop comprehensive plan for continuity of care. Assist in developing treatment plans for chronic disease patients.
    • Participate in development, review, and revision of Health Services Policies and Procedures and Treatment Protocols.
    • Assist in multi‑disciplinary educational programs for staff to maintain and update professional knowledge and competence.
    • Assist with continuing education and in‑service training of health care staff.
    • Assist in performance evaluations of contract and employed providers relative to DOC, DOH, community standards, and MCC/HS goals regarding population health programs.
  • Documentation and Health Services Activities
    • Maintain accurate, legible, complete records of patient care including chart documentation using SOAP format.
    • Participate in institution safety and sanitation inspections and report inadequacies.
    • Respond to verbal and written requests from general public, patients, families, staff with information consistent with statutes and procedures on health care record confidentiality.
    • Investigate and respond to patient grievances, complete unusual incident reports, collect data, investigate and complete reports necessary to ongoing operation of Health Services and institution.
