TITLE Learning Assistance Program (LAP)

REPORTS TO Building Principal

POSITION SUMMARY

Teacher for reading and math intervention for students in grades K-5. This position requires the employee to identify, screen, and provide reading, reading readiness and math intervention services to eligible students.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate
  • Experience providing small group intervention in reading, math and reading readiness
  • Training or experience with the Washington State K-12 Reading Model, including the five essential components of reading
  • Training or experience working with academically at risk and culturally and linguistically diverse students and families
  • Preferential consideration given to those fluent in Spanish
  • Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate
  • Current valid CPR and First Aid may be required for the position
Special Requirements
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
  • I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
  • Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
Knowledge
  • Common Core State Standards, Smarter Balanced and Measurement of Student Progress
  • Current intervention strategies such as small group instruction, differentiation, sheltered instruction, etc.
  • Training and supervision of para educators
Skills and Abilities
  • Provide small group intervention in reading, reading readiness and math
  • Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers regularly and participate on building teams and/or committees.
  • Use research-based instructional strategies for intervention
  • Provide classroom teachers and para educators with support and appropriate intervention strategies to use in the general education classroom.
  • Observe district assessment schedule and provide Curriculum and Instruction department with updated student information and assessment data as requested
  • Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement
  • Observe strict confidentiality regarding student information
  • Adhere to federal, state and district regulations, policies and practices
  • Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, fights, substance abuse, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
