Position Title: Para educator – Specialized Instructional - Health Room Support
Reports To: Building Principal
Job DescriptionPrior to applying for a para educator position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or
- Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or
- Received a passing score on one of the PESB‑approved assessments.
Position Summary
Under supervision, perform a variety of instructional activities; assist in promoting student learning; perform routine and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and perform other related work as required within a collaborative team.
Preferred Education and Experience
- One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi‑age groups of children.
- Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in child growth and development, instructional technology, or a closely related field.
Special Requirements
- Hold an AA or higher degree from a college or university, or have completed at least two years of college with 72 college credits accrued, or have passed the OSPI‑approved test, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- CPI certification for specified positions including Positive Behavior Support (PBS), Structured Learning Center (SLC), and some 1:1 student support.
- Completion of all state‑required para educator certifications.
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance.
- I‑9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
- HIV/HBV training within 60 days of hire date (District provided).
- Human Resources new hire training within 60 days of hire date (District provided).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic concepts of child growth, development, and developmental behavior characteristics for students ages preschool to 21, including those with special learning needs and English language needs.
- Student behavior management strategies such as PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) and Trauma‑Informed Practices.
- Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
- Basic arithmetic concepts.
- Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures.
- Demonstrate an empathetic, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age, ability, and cultural backgrounds.
- Model appropriate behavior.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Perform routine tasks and operate a variety of educational and office‑related equipment and technology.
- Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures to enhance a positive educational environment.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
- Follow specific student educational plans with fidelity.
- Manage and guide student behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information and records.

Position Responsibilities
- Work with parents to collect immunization data and input data into the online WA‑IIS system.
- Run and submit state reports.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor files and records pertaining to student health, including treatment administration, screening results, communicable disease tracking, and injury/accident reports.
