Job Description

Title: Para educator – Specialized Instructional – Behavior Support

Reports To: Building Principal

Starting Date: Sep 9, 2026

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary: $28.53 to $33.13 Per Hour

Location: Parl Place Middle School

Days per year: 180

Hours per day: 6.5

Shift time: 7:35‑2:35

Position Info:

  • Employees accepting positions in this category are not eligible to transfer to instructional or non‑instructional para positions for two (2) years from the date the assignment begins.
  • Current PSE members must apply within 5 days to be guaranteed consideration for position.

Job Info:

  • Payrate listed is based on 25‑26 salary schedule and will be updated upon board approval of 2026‑2027 salary schedule.
  • Screening of the applications will start on June 24, 2026.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience: One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi‑age groups of children.
  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in child growth and development, instructional technology, or a closely related field.

Special Requirements

Candidates must meet the requirements set forth in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) by satisfying one of the following criteria:

  • Hold an AA or higher degree from a college or university.
  • Have completed at least two years of college with 72 college credits accrued.
  • Have passed the PESB‑approved test.
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.

Candidates must also meet the following requirements:

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • CPI‑certification.
  • Completion of all state‑required para educator certifications.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance.
  • I‑9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
  • HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided).
  • Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic concepts of child growth, development, and developmental behavior characteristics pertinent to students in grades pre‑school through age 21, including students with special learning needs and English language needs.
  • Student behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
  • Basic arithmetical concepts.
  • Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedure.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English.
  • Demonstrate an empathetic, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office‑related machines and equipment.
  • Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
  • Follow specific student educational plans.
  • Manage and guide student behavior.
  • Be flexible with schedule (i.e., job duties, responsibilities, staff meetings, training, etc.).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques. Collaborate and execute student’s behavior plans with fidelity.
