Position Overview

Sea Mar Behavioral Health in Monroe, WA is hiring a full‑time Child and Family Therapist. The therapist provides individual and/or family therapy, case management, crisis stabilization, treatment planning, and may lead groups. The role includes referrals and coordination with medication providers, primary physicians and other community partners. Must accurately diagnose mental health issues and develop treatment plans based upon diagnosis. Will work later hours (after 5 pm) on some days and may work within schools or other non‑traditional settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administrative
  • Assist in ensuring agency compliance with WACs, RCWs, and other relevant laws, regulations, and contracts.
  • Help develop and implement policies and procedures as directed by the Program Director.
  • Educate staff regarding mental health service referral processes and psycho‑educational topics such as suicide risk assessment and behavior modification.
  • Maintain documentation of mental health services in patient charts.
Clinical Duties
  • Provide developmentally and culturally appropriate diagnostic assessments; document outcomes, justify diagnoses, and communicate with collaborative partners.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate for children and families.
  • Involve family members in assessment processes and treatment planning when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other professionals for family‑centered assessments and planning.
  • Apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Identify age‑specific grouping of needs for each patient.
  • Refer patients to psychiatric and medication management services as appropriate, gather necessary records, and collaborate with psychiatric providers to ensure accurate presentation.
  • Provide individual and/or family counseling in coordination with other system services.
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop treatment plans addressing suicidal ideation or gestures.
  • Gather past mental health service information for treatment plan development and communicate referrals.
  • Support staff regarding mental health needs of staff or patients; maintain confidentiality and handle challenging situations.
Productivity Standard

Produce a minimum of 80 encounters, equaling at least 80 hours of face‑to‑face contact.

Qualifications
  • Understanding of behavioral health organization contracts and ability to tier clients in a managed care system; effective working with diverse cultural groups.
  • Accurate diagnosis of mental health issues and development of treatment plans based on diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency treatment and coordination with related providers.
  • Must complete an annual clinical competency test as a mental health therapist.
  • Must sign a permanent oath of confidentiality covering all patient‑related information.
  • Must pass a background check.
Education/Experience
  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work with coursework in psychological diagnostics (required).
  • Must meet WAC requirements for a Mental Health Professional.
  • CMHS preferred or willingness to work toward credential;
    English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Computer proficiency with Cerner, MS Office, and other medical software.
  • Experience with evidence‑based models and wrap‑around services preferred.
  • Experience working with children and families required.
