Department: Production
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Reports to: Material Handler Supervisor
The Material Handler unloads donations from containers and moves goods to appropriate production areas.
Pay Rate: $17.13 / hour
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Remove and sort salvage material and garbage from salable goods.
- Sort donations into appropriate bins for further processing.
- Provide a smooth flow of goods to the production floor.
- Use cardboard compactors and identify problems.
- Maintain donor tallies.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Demonstrate safe work practices and report potential hazards.
- Build and maintain internal and external customer satisfaction.
- If certified: safely operate forklift per Seattle Goodwill standards.
- Maintain reliable attendance.
- Communicate effectively with others, including those with limited English skills.
- High school graduate or equivalency preferred (not required).
- No prior experience required.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
Optional:
Seattle Goodwill forklift certification (must meet eligibility requirements).
Lift and carry up to 30‑40 pounds; stand, bend, kneel, reach, stoop, squat, push, climb ladders, and travel across varied surfaces.
Essential Mental/Sensory Abilities- Organizing, sorting, categorizing, counting, adding, subtracting.

- Communicating with the public.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
