POSITION TITLE:

SWISS LATHE MACHINIST LEVEL 1

Wage Range: $26 - $40

Night Shift: 4 - 10-hour shifts/week. 2:30pm - 12:00am ($4/hour Shift Differential)

Day Shift: M-F, 6am-2:30pm

The Swiss Lathe Machinist reports to the Swiss/Turn Supervisor and is responsible for the setup and operation of Swiss machines as assigned.

Position Duties:
  • Setup of tooling as required by the project work order and setup sheet.
  • Audit and maintain shop documents as required.
  • Program editing as required to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Tie-in and train Shop Technicians.
  • The operation of the machine per programs and work order instructions.
  • In process inspection of parts in conjunction with a part checklist to ensure the quality of parts produced.
  • Deburring in process parts to allow for continuous machine operation and to promote efficient use of machine run time.
  • Promote continuous process improvement through daily involvement in shop activities and by communicating effectively with all staff members, vendors, and customers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of machines, tools, and work area to promote safe and efficient operation.
Required Skills:
  • Possess good communication and organizational skills.
  • Maintain a good understanding of screw machining and specific machine operation.
  • Maintain a good understanding of job process, what tools establish what features and how.
  • Understand Tool offsets, what tool, why it needs adjustment, correct direction, and how it will affect the rest of the part.
  • Understand Work offsets, how to find Work offsets being used, how to set Work offsets.
  • Have the ability to determine what work offset needs adjusting in which direction and how it will affect the rest of the project.
  • Have the ability to load a bar loader and calculate loop.
  • Maintain an understanding of inserts, knowledge of what insert should be used for what application, identify insert wear and ability to change/load inserts. Know what insert radius is required.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow all shop procedures and instructions.
  • Must understand and be able to use shop inspection tools.
  • Possess strong knowledge of basic shop math.
  • Maintain a good understanding for CNC programming and must be able to perform basic program edits.
  • Maintain a strong understanding and acceptance of the company Quality Management System and relating procedures.
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the following conditions can occur:

  • The employee is in a clean (5s’d), and climate-controlled manufacturing environment with state-of-the-art filtration systems. In this environment there is exposure to moderate to loud noise, dust, fumes and vapor from coolant, etc.
  • There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, twist, bend, lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions including inserting upper body into tight quarters in machinery during the course of the workday.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of an 8–10-hour shift.
  • Personal protective equipment will be required and provided.
  • The job involves time pressure and performing well under stress.
  • Employment includes being able to sustain working rapidly for long periods and to communicate and interact with others. There are multiple priorities to juggle including reading and comprehending written materials.
  • The employee must have the ability to write and solve shop math.
