The Green County Highway Department is hiring Summer Laborers for the upcoming construction season. These positions are temporary for the summer months May 4 - September 4, 2026 (start and end dates are negotiable).
This position will perform general highway maintenance and laborer tasks using hand tools and motorized equipment. Duties include traffic flagging, pothole patching, and other assigned labor.
Compensation:
Rate of pay starting at $15.00 per hour. Returning Summer Laborers receive an additional $1.00 per hour to their base wage (up to the 3 rd consecutive season).
Please note that no benefits are offered for seasonal positions.
Schedule:
40 hours per week, 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday (hours may vary based on weather conditions; some overtime required).
- Assist with road and roadside maintenance and construction operations.
- Flagging, painting, washing equipment, and such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
- There is frequent interaction with the highway staff and some interaction with the public.
- Operate & maintain various pieces of motorized equipment, trucks/vehicles, and tools as assigned.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license upon application and maintain such during the entire course of employment.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable onsite job attendance.
- Ability to work independently.
- The physical demands of this position will vary from day to day and are highly dependent on the particular function being performed. The ability to lift 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and 25 to 50 pounds frequently is required. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling are required.
- Able to stand/be on one's feet for long periods.
- Exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, dust, dirt, loud noises, etc.
- Ear, eye, and head protection required and will be furnished by the County.
Requires flagger training provided by the Highway Department.
