Gateway School District is anticipating hiring a Social Worker & Home/School Visitor to serve its High School, Middle School, & Cyber Students for the 2026-27 School Year. This is a 1-year contracted position.
Required Certifications & Clearances:
- PA School Social Worker PK-12 Certification through PDE
- Current License as a Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) through PA Department of State
- Act 34 PA State Police Criminal History
- Act 114 Federal Criminal History
- Act 151 PA Child Abuse History
- TB Test (No more than 3 months old)
To identify barriers to education & increase access to community resources to students and families. Increase school attendance through implementing supportive interventions. Connecting families with appropriate referrals to strengthen school & community relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited social work program
- Working knowledge of current PA legal practices, policies, and school law
- Maintain required certifications and license as active and current
- Strong leadership & personal drive
- Passion to work with children and families
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with staff, students, and parents
- Ability to travel (current driver's license) and maintain independent schedule while reporting to Director of Pupil Services or Building Administrator
- Communicating and working with Cyber Coordinators to provide support for cyber students, such as monitoring attendance, offering support for mental health, community agency connections, home visits, etc.
- Collaborating with building principals and staff in identifying the needs of students and families
- Provide the school with adequate information concerning the environment from which certain children may come
- Monitor attendance according to District policy.
- Implement and develop student attendance improvement plans with families
- Process and monitor referrals on an as needed basis
- Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, programs, and other professional activities regarding pupil personnel and child accounting
- Meet regularly with the Director of Pupil Services & Building Administrator
- Actively participate as a member of the assigned building's Student Assistance Program (SAP) team
- Actively participate as a member of the crisis response team
- Conduct formal and informal assessments of student functioning, developmental history, family and community structure, interpersonal relationships, adaptive behavior and culture factors that may influence learning
- Use student, family, school, and community assessment to develop appropriate interventions to improve student learning
- Develop, assist, and implement (as needed) intervention plans consistent with student needs, strengths, social and cognitive functioning, and cultural experiences
- Provide supportive casework to children and their families, including parent education and self-advocacy
- Consult with stakeholders to facilitate understanding of factors in a student's home, education agency, and community that effect their educational experience
- Consult and collaborate with educational agency personnel, parents, and community resources in areas that impact student learning
- Represent the District in al court proceedings pertaining to truancy and dependency
- Participate in the transition services when a student is returning from an outpatient or inpatient setting
- Represent the district as the Homeless Liaison and Foster Care Liaison
- Any other duties assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or Building Administrator
