Annual Salary Range: $68,300 - $129,100

Job Summary

As a Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer at BPMI, you will perform routine technical functions under consistent oversight to execute the BPMI mission in areas including, but not limited to applying various NDE techniques to assess the integrity of materials, components, and systems. This role involves working with teams to ensure effective integration of NDE processes, ensuring compliance with , and recommending improvements.

Responsibilities may include planning, modeling, documenting, and qualifying NDE techniques, collecting and analyzing inspection results, and resolving technical challenges. The engineer is responsible for maintaining high technical standards and contributing to project success, ensuring safety and quality in all aspects of their work.

Essential Duties:
  • Develop technical knowledge and skills in nondestructive testing methods and applications, including visual, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, or radiographic testing.
  • Participate in NDT inspection development or feasibility projects involving BPMI, NNL, shipyards, suppliers and NAVSEA to develop and apply NDT inspection methods, techniques and procedures for specific applications, with guidance.
  • Participate in laboratory, manufacturing, and in-service inspections utilizing the various NDT techniques to support technical evaluations and problem resolutions, with oversight.
  • Support more experienced engineers in evaluating technical challenges related to NDE.
  • Communicate status updates to management on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships and where NDE application is beneficial.
  • Compile and update technical reports and procedures to meet  quality standards.
  • Complete structured training and work assignments that provide experience with engineering methods and practices within NDE and BPMI.
  • Assist in the procurement of NDT equipment and materials.
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of technical documents for Government submissions, providing technical information and recommendations, including obtaining approval of funding.

Minimum

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Materials Engineering, or related technical degree, from an accredited college or university.
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's, Ph.D.) may be considered as a partial substitute for required experience, depending on the relevance to the position, but may not fulfill the entire experience requirement.
  • Natural or corrected near distance acuity such that the individual is capable of reading J1 letters on the ANST 2224 Jaeger Eye Card for near vision, or equivalent type test. This requirement shall be met with either or both eyes.
  • The ability to distinguish colors to one of the following degrees:
    Normal color vision; no color blindness exists. Impaired color vision, but with demonstrated adequate color discrimination and contrast for the inspection method. Individuals determined to be color blind may still interpret inspection results if they can demonstrate, by inspection of test props or production pieces, that they possess adequate color discrimination and contract, and can identify the inspection materials to such a degree that their color blindness does not reduce their ability to perform the…
