Salary: $24.78 - $30.76 per hour

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) seeks resilient individuals to assist and support the instruction of Spanish‑speaking English learners working toward high school diplomas. The role serves vulnerable and at‑promise student populations, including emotionally disturbed, justice‑involved, or probation students. The position is located with RenaissancePAU and requires travel to Monrovia, Monterey Park, and Hawthorne (mileage paid).
Knowledge- Relevant English Learning Development (ELD) or Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) concepts and strategies
- English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) procedures
- Child and adolescent development and behavior management principles and practices
- Personal health and hygiene practices
- Operation of a variety of instructional, audio‑visual, and electronic devices and equipment
- Laws and regulations pertaining to child abuse reporting and interactions with school‑aged children
- Mathematical Facility – Performing computations and solving mathematical problems
- Reading Comprehension – Understanding and using written information
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Self‑Management – Showing personal organization, self‑discipline, and dependability
- Bilingual Communication – Speaking, reading, writing in a second language
- Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue
- Writing – Communicating effectively in writing
- Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectations of customers
- Handling Conflict – Managing interpersonally strained situations
- Cultural Proficiency – Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions and cultures
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No formal experience required; desired experience assisting in instruction of children, adolescents, or young adults who are English learners and at‑promise or incarcerated youth
- Pass a test of bilingual proficiency in oral and written Spanish
- Pass the LACOE written test of ability to assist in instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics
- Successfully complete the LACOE Para educator Workshop after passing the written test (not required of current or former LACOE Paraeducators eligible for re‑employment)
- Some positions may require travel and availability of private transportation
Candidates meeting the minimum requirements will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of online multiple‑choice exams (tentatively scheduled), an online suitability questionnaire, and online bilingual Spanish written and oral exams.
