The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking resilient individuals to assist and support the instruction of Spanish-speaking English learners who are working toward their high school diplomas. This critical role serves vulnerable and at‑promise student populations, including youth who are emotionally disturbed, justice‑involved, or on probation. The current vacancy is located with the Renaissance PAU and expected to travel between the following sites:
Monrovia (128

E. Palm Ave., Monrovia, CA 91016), Monterey Park (1260 S. Monterey Pass Rd., Monterey Park, CA 91754), and Hawthorne (14600 Cerise Ave., Hawthorne, CA 90250). Mileage will be paid.

The position requires proficiency in Bilingual Spanish.

Qualifications Knowledge
  • Relevant English Learning Development (ELD) or Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) concepts and strategies
  • English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) procedures
  • Child and adolescent development and behavior management principles and practices
  • Personal health and hygiene practices
  • Operation of a variety of instructional, audio‑visual, and electronic devices and equipment
  • Laws and regulations pertaining to child abuse reporting and interactions with school‑aged children

Education & Experience
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:

    None (Experience assisting in instruction of children, adolescents, and/or young adults who are English learners and at‑promise or incarcerated youth is desired).

All candidates must pass a test of bilingual proficiency in oral and written Spanish. Candidates must pass the LACOE written test of ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics. Candidates must successfully complete the LACOE Para educator Workshop after passing the written test. (This requirement is not required of current LACOE Paraeducators or former Paraeducators eligible for re‑employment.)

Some positions in this classification may require travel and the availability of private transportation.

Selection Process

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of online multiple‑choice exam (tentatively scheduled between 7/13‑7/20), online Suitability Questionnaire (tentatively scheduled between 7/30‑8/7), and online Bilingual Spanish written and oral exams (tentatively scheduled between 7/30‑8/7).
