College Tutor (English Learners)
We are hiring College Tutors for the 2025-26 school year at Monrovia Unified School District! Under the direct supervision of the assigned principal, incumbents in this classification will focus on assisting students who are English Learners (ELs) ensure academic success across multiple grade levels, content areas, and programs. College Tutor (English Learners) are passionate about helping students learn, modeling successful study habits and mindsets, and understand the value of being a lifelong learner.
College Tutor (English Learners) guide students toward English language proficiency and long-term academic success. College Tutors (English Learners) are active participants in the learning, growth, and personal development of students, acting as a role-model to future college-bound students.
Essential duties include participating in training related to English Learner Development and the administration of the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), assisting in the administration of the ELPAC, working with students in all aspects of language development, and promoting students' self-directed learning, growth mindset, and self-confidence. Subject areas include English Language Development, English Language Arts, and Mathematics for grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 courses.
Requirements/qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalency, enrollment full or part-time at a college, and two years or 48 semester units at an institution of higher education. Submission of college transcripts or an AA degree is required. Knowledge of basic subjects taught in District schools, basic instructional methods and techniques, correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct, operation of standard office and classroom equipment, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy is desired.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others, receive and follow instructions for assigned activities, work constructively and productively on a daily basis, be reliable, on time, and attend work on a regular basis, and have reliable transportation or the ability to commute to work daily is required. Work environment is an indoor classroom environment.
