Senior Systems Controls Engineer

The Senior Systems Controls Engineer will have a proven background in automation control, electrical engineering, and software development. Responsibilities include conceptual and detailed controls design, coding, and testing of pre-sale conceptual design, schedule, and cost estimation of control architecture for semi-automated and fully automated industrial processing workstations. This role also involves PLC logic and electrical schematic design for integrating system operation, motion control, laser programming and control, machine vision (Cognex, Keyence), data collection and analysis, file management, human machine interfaces (HMI), SCADA, OPC, UA, and networking capabilities with real time implementation.

Additionally, the role requires structured, re-useable low-level motion control system code for Delta-Tau, Aerotech, and client motion systems implementing control system and I/O functions. Manufacturing floor automation connectivity including LAN, OPC UA, database, and other standard interfaces and protocols are also part of the job. The Senior Systems Controls Engineer will provide support for system acceptance testing conducted by project managers and work in a team environment with other engineers, production, QA, test, materials control, contract management, and sales personnel.

The role also involves preparing requirements documents based on interviews with customers and hardware engineers, preparing interface and functionality documentation for control modules, developing project plans and schedules for control development work, reporting on progress, demonstrations, and changes, and providing detailed documentation for engineering release. The position requires analyzing and recommending improvements to present controls' development and design control methodology.

Position requirements include complete knowledge in controls design tools and environments including OPC UA, Rs Logix, CP One, Ethernet IP and others. Current experience in RS Logix and PointIO is required. Strong fundamental background in controls engineering is a MUST! Design for long term support and modification, object-oriented design and analysis, professional software design and documentation control methodology, and the ability to travel occasionally are also required.

Education and experience include a four-year degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or related discipline, with a master's degree preferred. Seven years+ experience in designing custom motion control and HMI software, and three years+ experience in designing custom machine vision applications are also required. Other qualifications include attention to detail and being flexible to manage multiple tasks independently, excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional organization and time management skills, proven ability to meet deadlines while performing tasks accurately, initiative-taking with a keen sense of ownership in all areas of responsibility, punctual and dependable attendance, and being free from alcohol and drug abuse.
