Engineering Manager
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Design Engineering Manager to lead a team of designers while driving the design, development, and execution of highly customized mechanical systems and engineered attractions. This individual will manage a small design team, collaborate directly with clients and internal stakeholders, and oversee projects from concept development through installation. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with leadership experience and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges in a highly creative, project-driven environment.
This is not a purely managerial role. The successful candidate will actively participate in design efforts, engineering reviews, client collaboration, and technical problem-solving while providing leadership and direction to the design team.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3 Designers/CAD Professionals.
- Assign project responsibilities and monitor workload across multiple concurrent projects.
- Provide technical guidance and design oversight throughout all project phases.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, project management, and leadership teams.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of future engineering and design staff.
- Develop mechanical designs from concept through final production documentation.
- Create and review 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Perform engineering analyses and calculations related to structural integrity, fatigue, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
- Identify design risks and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Coordinate with third-party engineering firms and licensed Professional Engineers when required.
- Work directly with customers and creative teams to transform conceptual ideas into functional engineered solutions.
- Participate in concept development, design reviews, and client presentations.
- Interpret creative requirements and balance performance, manufacturability, safety, reliability, and budget considerations.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously across various stages including concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, fabrication, testing, and installation.
- Ensure project schedules, technical requirements, and deliverables are achieved.
- Create and review engineering calculations, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), installation packages, and technical documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and customer requirements.
- Maintain engineering documentation and revision control processes.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.
- Experience leading projects from concept through fabrication and implementation.
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising engineers, designers, or technical teams.
- Experience working in highly customized, project-driven engineering environments.
- Advanced proficiency with Solid Works.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, structural fundamentals, stress and fatigue analysis, manufacturing processes, and design for fabrication.
- Ability to develop engineering calculations and evaluate mechanical system performance.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with in themed entertainment, attractions, amusement rides, show action equipment, special effects, theatrical systems, or related industries.
- Experience with custom machinery, automation systems, motion systems, or specialty equipment.
- Experience with Revit and BIM environments.
- Familiarity with amusement industry standards and safety requirements.
- Experience coordinating with external engineering consultants and Professional Engineers.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Monrovia, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
