CNC Programmer / Lathe Machinist
This role focuses on programming and operating CNC lathes, with a strong emphasis on Mastercam programming and editing. You work with tight tolerances and complex 5-axis machining on aluminum and steel components in a busy manufacturing environment. You contribute to precision production by translating blueprints into accurate CNC programs and ensuring parts meet exact specifications.
Responsibilities- Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam, with an emphasis on editing and preferred experience in full programming.
- Interpret and work from blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Machine parts to tight tolerances of +/-.005, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to specifications.
- Perform 5-axis machining operations on aluminum and steel parts, adjusting programs and setups as needed.
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials, including aluminum and steel.
- Inspect finished parts using measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality, and make necessary program or setup adjustments.
- Collaborate with team members in the shop to resolve machining challenges and improve processes.
- Maintain equipment in good working order by performing routine checks and reporting any issues.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area within the manufacturing shop.
- Hands-on experience programming and operating CNC lathes.
- Proficiency with Mastercam, including strong editing skills and preferred experience in full programming.
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to machine parts to tight tolerances of approximately +/-.005.
- Experience with 5-axis machining operations.
- Practical experience machining aluminum and steel components.
- Familiarity with Fanuc controls and related CNC programming.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing and industrial shop environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with conventional mills and lathes is a plus.
- Comfort working with a variety of machining equipment and setups.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues and suggest improvements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn and adapt to new processes.

Work EnvironmentYou work in an indoor manufacturing and industrial setting within a large machine shop of approximately 20 or more employees. The environment is production-focused, with CNC lathes, mills, and related equipment in regular use. You spend most of your time on the shop floor, collaborating with other machinists and programmers, and operating machinery in a structured, safety-conscious environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Monrovia, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
