Job OverviewThe Monson Public School District is seeking a dynamic and innovative educational leader who possesses a compelling vision for student-centered instruction and a proven ability to lead and inspire as a partner with faculty, staff, students, and families at Granite Valley School. The principal will lead and manage a thriving professional learning community serving students in 2nd through 6th grade, characterized by common purpose, collaborative activity, and collective responsibility.
Responsibilities- Provide instructional leadership to the school community, fostering educational excellence through strong and innovative curricular programs.
- Plan and deliver high-quality professional development for staff.
- Develop and maintain a fiscally responsible budget that supports the district’s strategic plan.
- Lead and model a culture of reflective practice, data-driven instruction, and continuous improvement.
- Guide curriculum development to ensure standards-based, rigorous units with measurable outcomes.
- Ensure instructional practices reflect high expectations, engage all students, and are differentiated and culturally proficient.
- Oversee assessment practices to measure student learning, growth, and understanding, and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Manage school resources, operations, safety, and health systems, and supervise and evaluate staff in alignment with DESE standards.
- Develop and maintain a balanced operating budget with input from superintendents and the School Committee.
- Collaborate with the Director of Facilities to manage school facilities.
- Recruit, support, develop, and retain highly qualified, culturally proficient staff.
- Manage student behavior in a consistent, fair, and equitable manner, complying with state regulations.
- Communicate with families and community stakeholders to build positive relationships and support student success.
- Participate in school council, district-wide leadership teams, and community events.
- Master’s of Education degree from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed as a Principal/Assistant Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Minimum five years of successful school teaching and/or administrative experience, with evidence of strong leadership ability.
- Preferred:
Prior experience as a School Principal or Administrator. - Demonstrated ability to develop developmentally appropriate programs, interdisciplinary curriculum, and integrated Special Education programs.
- Strong public relations skills and tangible evidence of ability to relate to pupils, parents, colleagues, and central office administration.
- Master’s degree preferred.
