Job Description
Position: HT Extruder Operator – 2nd Shift
Location:
Turners Falls, MA Judd Wire, Inc. a Sumitomo Electric Group company is seeking an HT Extruder Operator for the 2nd shift. The operator will set up tubing and run semi‑pressure and pressure processes on extruder lines, including multi‑head, tandem, and multi‑extrusion lines, and various printers. Tasks include jacket operations for a wide range of short‑run, heavy/large wire, cable, and braided products with extruded compounds of various colors, according to specifications and established procedures.
Operate one or two extruders singly or simultaneously based on production demand.
Hiring Range: $22.63–$28.03/hour; 2nd shift differential: $2.00/hour.
Responsibilities- Work from shop orders and requisitions, moving heavy wire reels to takeoff apparatus; properly mix components and chemicals to maintain stability in terms of footage, lengths, wall thickness, die and leader sizes; use MIS system.
- Schedule production by selecting shop orders to consolidate runs for maximum efficiency and to meet time requirements.
- Set up extruder runs, placing and adjusting dies and leaders, obtaining and maintaining proper temperatures, speeds, and feeds; ensure adequate cleaning of heads, screws, and barrels.
- Operate marking/printing machines to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded wire/cable; operate multiple pay‑off and take‑ups per shop packet or wire size.
- Perform visual and tactile checks, taking samples according to specifications. Operate testing equipment to conduct tests such as concentricity, OD/, elongation, and adherence.
- Monitor operations continuously, adjusting water trough, speeds, feeds, and other variables to meet quality and quantity parameters.
- Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, or unusual conditions to supervision; maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, orderly condition.
- Work a flexible schedule.
- 1–3 years of extrusion or relevant manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to produce quality product consistently by following standard operating procedures and using judgment and sustained mental and visual attention.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
