Lead Bike Guide
The Lead Bike Guide is responsible for the gear, training, safety protocols, and purchasing related to the biking program and designated multi-use activities. The ideal candidate is a professional educator and outdoors person who balances technical expertise with unparalleled customer service. This role is essential in ensuring guests receive an exceptional, safe, and engaging experience consistent with the standards set for Forbes Five-Star properties and members of Relais & Chateaux.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage timely budget purchases and capital expenditure (Cap Ex) requests pertaining to the biking department.
- Maintain strict receipt and invoice accountability for all departmental spending.
- Manage vendor relations, accounts, and inventory procurement for bike operations.
- Oversee comprehensive gear maintenance, safety inspections, and general upkeep of the bike fleet.
- Serve as the primary owner of Bike Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring they are continuously updated and strictly followed.
- Design and execute comprehensive training programs for all bike guides, conducting sessions both in the field and in formal classroom settings.
- Identify, plan, and delegate daily task preparations for the bike program, communicating effectively with managers to coordinate timing and operational solutions.
- Lead and oversee large group activities or complex tasks that require multiple guides across departments (e.g., survival skills, corporate retreats, and ranch-related events).
- Assess the technical and hospitality skills of bike guides, providing constructive feedback and consulting with management on performance and development.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience at The Ranch at Rock Creek, or equivalent experience in a luxury guest ranch environment.
- Proven proficiency and readiness to lead at least five different guest activities.
- Demonstrated proactive approach to continuous improvement within the department.
- Strong commitment to personal and professional development, actively expanding both personal knowledge and the skill sets of fellow guides.
- Excellent time management and follow-through on all assigned tasks and administrative duties.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to foster a collaborative team environment.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme seasonal temperatures.
- Physical ability to ride, hike, and lead tours across varied, rugged terrain on the property.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies as necessary, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
